Just a few days ago Christopher Hitchens has announced that he has become a believer — in Obama.
What has precipitated such a change? Hitchens says that Obama has become “more teachable”, that he is “evolving”. Apparently, Obama has evolved to Hitchens’ liking.
I would agree with Hitchens that Obama has become teachable. Indeed Obama has learned that he can win as long as there are enough dupes who are willing to believe whatever he says. Obama’s position has indeed evolved to be more palatable to a larger percentage of voters.
It surprises me that Hitchens is willing to believe in Obama based on so little evidence. I guess even atheists have to believe in something, never mind the evidence.
Also, I think, Hitchens got miffed by McCain’s choice of Palin. She represents everything that Hitchens detests.
Obviously, Hitchens prefers an atheist as a president and Obama fits that description (I do not believe that Obama is either a Christian or a Muslim). Hitchen believes that America deserves an enlightened atheist president.
Indeed, atheist rulers bring enlightenment everywhere they rule. Here is a short list of great atheist heads of state:
- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
- Joseph Stalin
- Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev
- Mao Zedong
- Hồ Chí Minh
- Saloth Sar (also known as Pol Pot)
- Enver Hoxha
- Erich Honecker
- Nicolae Ceauşescu
- Fidel Castro
