Postal workers steal chocolates from children

3 12 2008

For Christmas and Birthday this year my mom sent our children some presents and advent calenders. Knowing from experience that an air-mail parcel takes 3+ weeks to travel from Germany to Texas she mailed it already on November 3rd. Finally, December 1st we got the parcel. It turns out that someone opened it (which was easy because standard boxes that you get at German Post Office are pretty flimsy) and stole 48 Kinder Surprise eggs from two boxes.

Some postal worker opened one side of the parcel box, took out the two Advent Calenders, cut them open, took out the plastic trays with chocolate eggs, and then stuffed the empty paper boxes into the parcel. Each box of chocolates was worth about 15 Euro (about $20). Fortunately, the other stuff from the parcel (Hello Kitty doll, etc.) was not stolen.

What a debased and vile person it must have been to steal chocolates from a parcel that was clearly meant for children. I hope that he/she will be among the 40,000 postal workers that are going to be laid off.

BTW, I am also not impressed with how long it takes for the postal service to deliver an air-mail parcel from Germany to Texas. Especially that my mom paid exorbitant amount of money for the shipping.

(Or maybe this is what the promised “redistribution of wealth” is to look like. It is starting early, even before Obama is a President.)
